Junior Squad

 

Alec has many years experience coaching & guiding juniors, having been the Coach at Grey High for 10 years. During this period they were unbeaten in Cape Schools' Week Cross Country Championships and besides producing a multitude of champions, he organised a highly successful tour to the UK and to America for 9 Grey runners.

 

The Grey athletes competed in the British Independent Schools' Championships, were they won 4 Gold Medals (out of 6 events contested). They then competed in the Peachtree 10km Road Race in Atlanta, Georgia alongside 55,000 participants, with Greg Mitchell finishing 56th in 31 minutes.

 

Alec coached Coleen De Reuck in her last year as a junior (finishing 3rd at SA Senior Cross Country) and also coached Terry Thornton, the SA Under 19 Cross Country Champion, who ran 13:26 for 5,000m while in matric at Lawson Brown High School.

 

Alec is a great motivator and believes in gradually developing the athletes he coaches, in an effort to avoid over training and injuries while children are experiencing growth spurts.
